NMS Systems - Sr Analyst

Location: Castle Rock, Co

General Purpose and Scope

Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of the Network Management Systems. Add new devices, create connectors, and independently research vendor documentation to include: Auditing/applying network device configurations to the NMS system, creating login credentials, scheduling and monitoring jobs and managing network alarms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support integration of existing network elements and onboarding of new network elements into the network management system with no delays experienced by the field
  • Create connectors by vendor and protocol types in order for the Fault Management System to display alarms properly from each network element
  • Identify alarms from network elements via MIBs or other vendor documentation, or the alarms received from the network element and build rule sets to present alarms to users, responding to network element owner feedback and NOC trouble tickets resulting in optimization of alarms by network element to address severity, parent-child alarm relationships, alarm suppression and document system changes via trouble ticket
  • Create ad hoc, daily, weekly, and monthly standard reporting from NMS database tables using Crystal Reports or Splunk
  • Create policies to effectively manage onboarding of new network elements, and set internal customer expectations regarding timelines of integration, and communicate status to project owner
  • Perform routine auditing and monitoring of NMS to ensure that it is functioning properly and has all available devices under management
  • Troubleshoot TCP/IP connectivity over LAN and WAN links between server and network elements, communicating any issues found to project owner
  • Ensure that user account creation, maintenance, and permission assignment policy and procedures are followed to be consistent with company security polices
  • Implement preventative measures to identify and evaluate risks proactively, and be responsible for researching root cause analysis and preventative measures for service affecting outages and communicate information to the affected network element owner
  • Evaluate, analyze, document, and train Network Operations and Network Element owners to ensure successful utilization of NMS tools
  • Communicate with internal managers regarding problems with and capabilities of NMS and other programs operating on the network
  • Support users of the system, troubleshoot any issues with connectivity, browser, or NMS application

Minimum Job Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technical or related field and 3 years professional level experience; or 7 years professional level related Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Technical experience
  • At least one year of telecommunications experience
  • Working knowledge with Network Management Systems, such as HP OpenView, CA Unicenter, Splunk, OpenNMS, Alarming/Ticketing Platforms, etc.
  • Experience with Windows and Unix administration, with TCP/IP, and with network troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience as NMS System Analyst
  • Working knowledge of Windows Scripting (vbscript, batch files, and/or powershell)
  • Previous experience supporting a NOC in a telecommunications environment
  • Working knowledge of Crystal Reports 2008
  • Working knowledge of SQL and database administration of MySQL
  • Previous experience in a Windows network environment
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, including standard ports as well as non-standard port configurations
